What's Happening in Indiana County: Week of September 21, 2026
Published 2026-09-21 by Sheri Kunkle
Happy Monday, neighbors!
Autumn is officially settling in across Indiana County, and the community calendar has answered with a wonderfully busy Saturday ahead. Quilt shows, a 5K at the park, tractors, race cars, and the farmers market all land on September 26, so there is something for everyone in the family.
Here is what I am watching across Indiana County this week.
Happening This Week
The Indiana County Farmers' Market is back Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to noon in the S&T Bank parking lot at South 8th and Church Street, with its usual midweek gathering earlier in the week.
A dozen-plus vendors gather with local produce, flowers, baked goods, meats, eggs, and honey, with live music on special occasions. It is a lovely Saturday morning ritual as the harvest season peaks.
The Happy Birthday America 250 Quilt Show, the 4th annual Indiana PA Quilter's Club quilt show, fills The Home Farm Barn at 717 Stutzman Road on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 with free parking, and local vendors join the quilters for a day that celebrates the craft as part of the America250PA Indiana County series.
The Jenn Myers Memorial 5K and 1-Miler takes off from Blue Spruce Park at 1128 Blue Spruce Road on Saturday, September 26, at 9 a.m., a community race honoring a local memory on the park's classic trails.
The Tractor Pull at Saylor Park also runs Saturday, September 26, open to the public with multiple classes of garden and light farm tractors and weigh-in at 10 a.m.
If you still have energy after all that, Pleasure Valley Raceway holds racing on Saturday as well, and The Smiling Goat Soap Company's farmers market runs the last Saturday of the month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at its store.
Looking Ahead
Two dates after this week are worth putting on the calendar now.
- Fireside Ghost Tales with author Jeffery Frazier, Wednesday, September 30, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Clark House on South Sixth Street. Pennsylvania folktales and legends, part of the America250PA Indiana County series, and a perfect way to ease into spooky season.
- Visio Duplex Art Exhibition, on view through October 17 at the University Museum at IUP in Sutton Hall on South Drive. A fall art exhibition worth a quiet afternoon on campus.
Event details can shift, so it is always worth a quick check of the Visit Indiana County PA calendar or the Downtown Indiana PA events page before you head out.
Community News
IUP expanded its on-campus housing capacity after a spike in demand, converting two-person suites into three- and four-person rooms with trustees approving adjusted rates for the year.
It is a clear signal of how strong the pull toward Indiana remains, and it is good context for anyone thinking about what campus and rental demand mean for the local housing market.
A second superload of electric-generating equipment is being readied for delivery into the county, following the first oversized haul earlier in the season.
It is a reminder of the industrial and energy activity running through the region, with travelers on the affected routes advised to expect temporary slowdowns.
State police fire marshals announced an arrest in suspected arson cases in Cherryhill Township, bringing a measure of resolution to a series of investigations that had the community on edge.
One health note worth repeating: public health officials reported the county's measles count has risen to 14 cases, up from nine earlier this month.
It is a good reminder to touch base with your provider if you have questions about vaccines, especially as we head into cold and flu season.
A Quick Real Estate Note
For anyone keeping an eye on the local market, the IUP housing expansion is a good window into how much demand Indiana is seeing right now, and it echoes what we are tracking in home sales.
Average home values countywide sit around $170,600, up about 7.7 percent year over year, and the 15701 borough ZIP remains the hottest pocket, with average values around $207,100 and homes there going under contract in roughly a week.
Whether you are a first-time buyer, a landlord, or someone thinking about an investment property, it is a market worth paying attention to.
A quick note
This week's events and news were compiled from local sources current as of the publication date, including Visit Indiana County PA, Downtown Indiana PA, the Indiana Gazette, WCCS Radio, and IUP. Schedules can change. Please confirm details with the event organizers before making plans.
